Am I Too Old To Go Out?

It’s a weird complex I have since it's New Years Eve, and I’m 19 days away from my 27th birthday.
I go out on special occasions like Holiday Parties (hello, open bar) or my own birthday. But in the last 2 years lately I feel like I am far too elderly to enjoy a night out.

Here are the thoughts that go through my head:

1.     What do I wear?
a.     It’s important to note that I haven’t purchased anything from Forever 21 in the last year so I don’t even know where to shop for club clothes.

2.     Who do I go with? Does anyone go out to these..”bars”? Anymore?

3.     What time should I be ready? Am I the first or last person at the club?

4.     What should we drink? I have to be drunk to do this soooo shots.
5.     Should I wear a real coat? It’s cold outside!

6.     Is the music going to be too loud?

7.     Shit. I have to pay for my own drinks now that I’m engaged.

8.     (while at the club) Can we go yet?

9.     How far away are we from Taco Burrito King…

In any case, I hope all of you going out tonight wear some real clothes and remember the ball drop for 2015!

I'll be at home in my dress like....

Happy New Year!

Never Forget The Old When You're Ringing In The New

Happy (Almost) New Year! Aren't you excited the world didn't end?

While we are all busy making NYE resolutions, and vowing to never do some things again, I think it's important to take time to realize all the things that have helped bring you to yet another New Years Eve day. There's a journey every year and even the bad, the horrible times you went through, are the reason you're making new decisions right now.

So! With that being said, below are the 12 things that I am promising to bring into my New Year. Some are fashion related, some are not. I hope they help you with your revelations and resolutions in being a better you in 2013:

  1. Remember- All those bad things that happened to you this year, they happened and guess what? They're not the worst things that will ever happen to you. Again, the things of this year are NOT worst things that will ever happen to you. The worst thing, would be to not have an opportunity to try and do better and since the Mayans were wrong about the world ending, you have a chance in 2013 to do better because you now know better.
  2. Party Nails- There's something fun about not matching and making a fashion statement with arguably your smallest accessory, and this trend won't cost you an arm and a leg ;)
  3. OWN IT - Something so simple that has stuck with me ever since I've heard it! YOU are the only person who can do what YOU do, so do it! Unfortunately this goes for both good and bad things, but if you have the balls to say or do something bold then you better take credit for it.
  4. Peplum - It's frilly and compliments all shapes! It's moved from skirts to jackets, pants, shorts, and dresses. Peplum is the new LBD.
  5. Just Keep Swimming - Dorie had some wise words from 'Finding Nemo' but it's true. Also similar to #3, you cannot do anything but move forward in life. When an obstacle does come into your life, time doesn't stop and you can't either. In time, you may find the answer on how to conquer your problem anyway!
  6. High, High Heels - you saw the return of the platform this year right? You either go High or go Low, and I for one, am not a fan of the Kitten Heel.
  7. Believe in a Higher Power- I respect all Religions and Spiritual Beliefs in the world, but the one thing that truly helped me this year was the understanding that there is a Power greater than myself guiding me with the will to accomplish some pretty hefty goals I set for myself in 2012.
  8. Sequins -  No explanation needed.
  9. GO TO THE GYM - No really. You know all the talk: "your metabolism slows down when you get older blah blah blah", and all that might be true. But I feel better when I know I did something healthy for myself (I also feel better that I went for a run while eating a LARGE #1 from McDonalds). Just do it, the hour will go faster than you think.
  10. Wedge Kicks - Let's just all embrace the fact the we live in the new age 80s, and pumped up kicks are here to stay.
  11. Value Your Friends & Family - I don't know what I would do without the awesome support and honesty of all my loved ones, and I think you guys can say the same for yours.
  12. Collars - Peter Pan was onto something, and I'm especially happy since I make them myself! Besides, looking dapper never hurt anyone.
and one more for good luck:

Obviously Number 13  would be my Curves, and yours! It has been an amazing year for me on this blog, and it's because of all of you! I am so glad to write and have readers like you that love to read so thank you for being loyal visitors, and embrace your curves in the New Year because they're apart of you.

Have a glass of bubbly tonight, and I'll see you in 2013 ;)

NYE MEGAPOST: It's Never Too Late!

Hello Darling Divas!

This is the last post of two thousand and eleven, and I wanted to go out with a BANG! Since we don't have a lot of time, this NYE MEGAPOST is going to get straight to the point and cover all our bases. Stay tuned, you won't be sorry in the end :)

First and foremost - know your retailers! Being Thursday, a lot of stores are offering free shipping up until 12/31: Free 2Day Shipping @ Shopbop.com and a lot of your local stores are having insane sales: Up to 75% off at H&M. But other than bargain hunting here are my tips for pulling together this NYE:

Makeup
I'm a MAC girl for life! The products are quality and last forever. Some of these products I've had for months but I am mostly a fan of the colors. While you can wear whichever brand of makeup suits you, below are my tips tips and tricks for makeup application :)

Primer
Prep & Prime Eye
I live and die by this stuff. This is the first step in creating a perfect eye. If you plan on a smokey eye, blending shadows, or using more than eyeliner, using primer first will make your look last overnight!

This is one of my simple eye looks. It doesn't take a lot of product, it has a slight shimmer and brightens up your lids for a fresh and youthful look. I am wearing: Sephora Nano Eyeliner in Pearl Beige, MAC Penultimate Eyeliner, and MAC Expensive Pink Eyeshadow.

This eye I consider "Technicolor". I picked the subtle colors of my outfits and brought them out with blending the shades, and adding a bit of black to the outer corners for a Smokey effect. It can be done with any color, but I love this idea! Even if you are wearing black and white, you can jazz it up with color on the lids. I am wearing, MAC eye shadows: Hepcat, Carbon, and Aquadisiac, and MAC Penultimate Eyeliner.

I like this lip because it is Nude with a twist. Enough color to combine with any of the previous eyeshadows, but not overpowering. I am wearing MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick & MAC Absolutely It Pro Longwear Pencil.
This last look is my favorite - I would call it "Hollywood Glam". It combines a full face of makeup with that sexy Red Lip and I think it's done just right. I am wearing MAC Eyeshadows Carbon and Gesso, MAC Penultimate Eyeliner, and MAC Red Ruby Woo Lipstick. This is the best red lipstick I have tried!

The Fits!

Ok so we've got Let It Shine , Let Me See Your Hips, SWING, Put Your Back Into It!, & Glitter Is A Girl's BFF as style inspiration. But for those of you who want to go balls to the walls with party dresses, here are my super sexy suggestions:

Divide and Contour Color Block Strapless Dress
Colorblocking can never go wrong, and the black lines always add a slimming effect.
Lyric Poetry Lace Fuchsia Pink Dress
Very Vintage feel and the contrast of the lace adds my "Subdued Sexy" effect that I love :)
Vivian Ward Teal and Purple Dress
This dress has a sexy cutout and the contrast of the Hunter and Violet allows you to do a multitude of colors with your accessories.
Dress with Scalloped Iridescent Sequins
This is a modern version of the Flapper Dress with the faved NYE glam: Sequins!

Accessories
Last but not least: Jewelry! I love a BIG statement necklace. There's so much attention drawn to your neck, you hardly need any other jewels! Here are some statement pieces to end the year right:

Micha Design Long Tassel Statement Necklace

Nakamol Design 'Cleo' Beaded Collar Necklace

Micha Design Agate Tooth Statement Necklace
Forever 21 Panel Bib Necklace

Here you go! Happy Stylish New Year!

I wish you all a great and prosperous New Year, and wanted to thank you for taking the time to read my blog - you guys are Savvy Readers :)

See you in 2012!

Let Me See Your Hips SWING!

Hello Lovely Ladies! It is Thursday which means the question of the weekend plagues us: "What do I Wear?!" No fear, another party post is here to save the day, or to add to your NYE wardrobe possibilities. Today we have: Peplum!

Fun fact: Peplum is a Greek word that literally means a mini skirt or ruffle attached to a garment by the waist line.
(Today's history lesson is provided by Wikipedia.) Now that we've learned something let's get to dressing :-)

Think of Peplum as "classic layering"; Most ruffles hit right above the hip line smoothing out our curves - Peplum is our BFF ladies!

Here's a few cautionary tips:
  • Peplum that starts at the hips will make you look hippy - which can exaggerate an unflattering point in our bodies.
  • Slight ruffles at the waist can make the middle part of us look bigger - which takes away the curvaceous effect in general.
  •  Colorblock Peplum can also have the same effect - if that's the look you are going for try to make sure the colors balance each other out (i.e neutrals with neutrals, bright colors with bright colors, not orange and navy blue)
Never fear ladies! Here are some examples of Peplum done SO right:

How cool is this?! A Peplum Belt to add to your exisitng wardrobe! BCBG Max Azria Peplum Waist Belt

ASOS Dress With Leather Insert Peplum

ASOS Aqua 'Klingon' Peplum Skirt

Mark + James by Badgley Mischka Strapless Peplum Dress

BeBe Fit & Flare Party Dress
Last but not least a few accessorizing ideas:
  • With these dresses, since there is so much going on below the waist I like to fluff up the top! Exaggerate with a nice smoky eye, using the colors of your dress.
  • Try a nice updo for a cute Vintage feel.
  • BIG earrings! That should be your only statement jewelry to keep it classic and simple.
That's all today ladies! Enjoy some of the sales on theses dresses, and glam up your wardrobe - you deserve it!
